This summer house is located next to the Parque Natural da Arrábida. A very nice location that is close to the beach and some small villages. this house has 4 rooms each with a private bathroom. two of the rooms have another private terrace that overlooks the pool. The common areas, located on the ground floor, are very open and flow smoothly into each other. The front of the house is very closed, which is in great contrast with the backside. The boundary between inside and outside is very small, which we found very important for a summer house.
One of the main focuses of this project was that the materials used came from the region. Portugal has a lot to offer in terms of materials, so this seemed like a nice challenge. In this project, we focused on textures. Almost everything is in the same color tone but yet there is a difference in the texture each time, and thus how you perceive materials throughout the day when the light is changing. Each bathroom has a different local marble, so the house remains playful and the diversity of portugal is translated into the architecture.
