In this modern digital age, the essence of reading has been forgotten. And by reading we refer to taking a psychical book. Reading from a physical book has more value than reading from an e-reader. This design proposal aims to make people realize the essence of reading again. With our project, we want people to fall in love with reading again.

Our design is based on the study of a plaza in San Pedro Garza Garcia, Monterrey, Mexico. This plaza lacks green space, and as a result it does not reach its full potential. This is a common example and from this we formed our concept of a green reading space. When we were designing, we did not forget to take into account that it can function in a different context. We want people to realize that they need to step back from the digital world and appreciate nature and books more.

Since we focus on a green environment, we aimed for a natural shape for the reading area. The module is based on a round shape that forms a wave afterwards if you keep repeating the module. This module forms a box in which plants are placed. When transported to another location, these plants can stay in their box and you can easily rebuild the green wave. It is important to create an intimate place where you can read or rest in peace. On the other hand, it should not be too exclusive. The reading room arouses the interest of visitors through its step-by-step entrance, allowing you to look inside but not yet revealing everything.

The design has been created by repeating two waves so that you have an interesting flow and intimacy from all sides, at first sight people don't know what to expect. Only when you enter you get the full experience that the reading space has to offer. There are seats in the semicircle and on the outside of the wave.

The reading room is so designed that the circulation flow is very interesting. You will find a more private and a more public space inside and outside the project. The aim is to give visitors the choice of how they use the reading room and in which way they feel most comfortable while reading a book. There are opportunities to sit both indoors and outdoors. In two boxes, located in the two waves, there is an open space to store books during the day, and at night they are stored in two separate boxes placed on the outside of one of the arches. There is also a bicycle shed for four bicycles, located on the outside of one of the arches, along with the book storage.

From left to right, the four implantation plans show the exact placement of the module in the world. Starting from a very zoomed in view to a very zoomed out view. But as mentioned earlier, this is only a temporary location of the reading room. The one in Monterrey is the original location. But over time, the green story will see more places, and inspire more people to step back and enjoy reading a book.
